Mark Metcalf

About

After winning election as Kentucky’s state treasurer in November 2023, Mark Metcalf assumed office on Jan. 1, 2024.

Prior to becoming treasurer, Metcalf practiced law for 38 years, working in private practice and as both an elected county attorney and a state and federal prosecutor. He has worked as a judge for the U.S. Immigration Court in Miami, Florida, and twice served as the state’s special assistant attorney general representing Kentucky before the U.S. Supreme Court.

In addition to his legal work, Metcalf has an extensive military background, having been deployed to Iraq and served in the Kentucky Army National Guard for nearly 30 years. Earlier in his career, he drew on his immigration court experience to write two reports published by the right-wing Center for Immigration Studies: “Built to Fail: Deception and Disorder in America’s Immigration Courts” (2011) and “Courting Disaster: Absent Attendance and Absent Enforcement in America’s Immigration Courts” (2017).

Metcalf earned both his BA and JD degrees from the University of Kentucky.
