About
Brad Briner became state treasurer of North Carolina on January 1, 2025. He replaced State Financial Officers Foundation (SFOF) member Dale Folwell, who chose to run for governor of North Carolina instead but lost in the GOP primary.
Briner currently serves on the board of trustees and as chairman of the investment committee for his alma mater, Phillips Exeter Academy, the well-known prep school in New Hampshire. He formerly served on the board of trustees of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (where he earned his undergraduate degree), the board of directors of the Boston Omaha Corporation, and the Debt Affordability Advisory Committee for the State of North Carolina.
Briner had retired before running for state treasurer. Between 2012 and 2023, he worked as co-chief investment officer for Willett Advisors, which managed Michael Bloomberg’s philanthropic assets. Prior to working at Willet, Briner was a co-founder of Morgan Creek Capital Management and held positions at the UNC Management Company, ArcLight Capital, and Goldman Sachs.
Briner holds a BA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and an MBA from Harvard University.
