Andy Matthews was elected as Nevada’s state controller in November 2022, winning 73% of the vote. From 2020–22, he served as an assemblyman in the Nevada Legislature. In 2021, he was named the Policy Champion of the Year by the Nevada chapter of Americans for Prosperity, a right-wing astroturf operation founded by the Koch brothers, and also earned the Guardian of Small Business Award from the National Federation of Independent Business.
From 2011–15, Matthews was president of the Nevada Policy Research Institute, a right-wing think tank affiliated with the State Policy Network, which promotes “free market solutions” to public policy issues.
A native of Massachusetts, Matthews holds a BA in journalism from Boston University and lives in Las Vegas.
