Richard Sattgast

About 

Richard Sattgast has served as South Dakota’s state auditor since 2019 and is next up for reelection in 2026 if he decides to run for a third term.  He previously held the same position from 2003–11 before shifting office to serve as state treasurer from 2011–19.

Prior to running for public office, Sattgast served in the military for 20 years, and shortly after returning home from duty in Desert Storm, he volunteered to help President Bush win reelection in 1992. He also worked in an unelected position in the secretary of state’s office and was involved in the South Dakota state legislature as both a legislative intern and a lobbyist intern.

Sattgast holds a BS in Political Science from South Dakota’s Black Hills State University and an MPA in Public Affairs, Political and Governmental Processes from New Mexico Highlands University in Las Vegas.

Josh Haeder

Biography 

Josh Haeder recently began his second term as South Dakota’s state treasurer, having first been elected in 2018. He is next up for reelection in 2026.

Since 2014, Haeder has worked as the managing partner of the Haeder Organization, a real estate investment company focused on affordable housing. Prior to running for public office, he worked as CEO of a national credit counseling agency that assists individuals and families faced with bankruptcy. He also worked for four years as a regional director for U.S. Senator Mike Rounds (R-S.D.), who is a member of the Senate Banking Committee.

Haeder holds a BS in Public Safety Management and an MA in Intelligence and Global Security from Point Park University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
