Roby Smith

About

After raising six times as much money as his opponent, Roby Smith won a very close race in November 2022 to become Iowa’s first Republican treasurer in 40 years. He narrowly defeated Democratic incumbent Michael Fitzgerald, the longest-serving state treasurer in the country.

Prior to running for treasurer, Smith had served three terms as a state senator (from 2011–23). He earned a BS in Business Administration from Concordia University and worked for almost 10 years as a local family banker in Iowa before becoming a small business owner and then a member of the Iowa Senate.
