Vivek Malek

About

Missouri Governor Mike Parson (R) appointed immigration lawyer Vivek Malek as state treasurer on December 20, 2022 to replace his predecessor Scott Fitzpatrick, who won the race to become state auditor effective in January 2023. In appointing the first non-white treasurer in Missouri’s history, the governor applauded Malek for being a “legal immigrant” who offers “inspiring proof that the American Dream can and will live on.” He also praised his appointee for being “a proud Republican and a strong capitalist [whose] conservative values are unimpeachable.”

Malek came to the U.S. with a BA and JD from Maharshi Dayanand University in Rohtak, India, before going on to earn an MBA from Southeast Missouri State University and an LLM from the University of Illinois College of Law in Urbana-Champaign. He has been practicing law since 2000 and established his own legal practice in St. Louis in 2011.

Malek intends to run for a full term as state treasurer once his appointment ends in 2024.
