Elise Nieshalla

About

Elise Nieshalla has served as Indiana’s state comptroller since Governor Eric Holcomb (R) appointed her to the position on December 1, 2023, replacing Tera Klutz, who left office for a CFO position in the private sector with three years still remaining in her term.

Nieshalla had run for state treasurer in 2022 but lost to incumbent StateTreasurer Daniel Elliott at the Republican convention. The comptroller position, which fulfills “the duties of the constitutional office of state auditor” in Indiana, is up for election in 2026.

Nieshalla, who identifies as a “common-sense conservative,” has previously served in fiscal roles at the county level, including as president of the Boone County Council and the Indiana County Councils Association. Her other political experience includes working on the economic development policy team for Republican gubernatorial candidate Mitch Daniels in 2004.

Nieshalla has worked in real estate for two decades overseeing property acquisitions and business management. She has taught as an adjunct instructor of public policy at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis and is a member of the American Enterprise Institute’s Conservative Education Reform and Leadership networks.

Nieshalla holds a bachelor’s degree from Oral Roberts University and a master’s degree from Indiana University.

Daniel Elliott

About

Daniel Elliott was first elected as Indiana’s treasurer in 2022, winning 61% of the vote and vowing on his campaign website to “oppose ESG… for Indiana investments,” claiming that the practice “force[s] investors to follow woke corporate strategies vs sound financial principles.”

Prior to being elected treasurer, Elliott served in local government as a Morgan County councilman (2016–20) and president of the Morgan County Redevelopment Commission (2013–22). He has also served as chair of the Morgan County Republican Party since 2013 and promoted his 2022 campaign by saying that he would be “a strong voice for conservative values [who] has taken on the Liberal Left.”

From 2007–22, Elliott worked as president and chief software architect at Intelli-Leap, an IT business he founded with his wife. On LinkedIn he notes that he attended Utah Valley University but doesn’t indicate any degrees earned.
